I am often asked to share the details of how I transitioned from a social worker mom to the founder of a (toxin-free) children's haircare line.  Though I have told my story countless times, I often skim over some of the important facts in an attempt to avoid boring my audience.  Last week, I had a great conversation with a fellow beautypreneur and was reminded that others may be interested in hearing what I have learned.  After all, moms will listen to anything that pertains to the health and safety of their babies! 1.  The U.S. has not passed a federal law governing the cosmetics industry since 1938.  2.  There are approximately 12,000 chemicals used in the cosmetics industry.  Approximately 90% have never been assessed for their impact on long-term health. 3.  The European Union has banned or restricted over 1,300 chemicals from cosmetics.  The U.S. has banned 11 to date. The thought of creating specialized products for children felt like an unclimbable mountain, a truly impossible feat.  But the concept kept resurfacing.  A lot.  While I probably would have been comfortable brushing the idea aside for a lifetime, these three facts changed everything for me.  They provided the only possible chance of success in my mind, as the status quo clearly wasn't best for kids.  Yes, it is highly unlikely that someone with a limited budget and no experience or connections will succeed in any highly competitive industry.  But is is possible.  Anything is truly possible. Hot Tot Haircare launched over four years ago and has accomplished more than I ever hoped for or expected.  Our specialized hair products for babies and kids have opened up a segment of the salon industry.  We have shown that healthy formulas can be effective and still feel luxurious, a unique combination that is rarely found with children's personal care products.  And- we are just getting started!  Stay tuned...
